I have recently updated to TB 128.5.3esr (64-bit) This occurred by the Microsoft Store 'update' feature automatically. Before this occurred, I was able to mark email messages with Tags that I had previous set up but it now appears that even when selecting an appropriate Tag for a particular message, whilst it initially 'coulors' it in accordance with the pre-defined colour, when my cursor is removed from the email message, the Tag is lost [and colouring]! Even when attempting to sort messages by Tags, none appear at all.... I have in my TB a number of different email accounts namely, Apple ones [x3], Hotmail [Outlook now] and Gmail and yet none of them seem to support [or retain] Tags anymore as they once did. Previous TB versions enabled me to use this feature - is there a good reason why it no longer works? Lastly, whilst I don't really know what a 'sandbox' is, I installed TB from the Microsoft Store in the hope that it would remain automatically updated - was this a mistake? Lastly this may assist TB experts of which I am most definitely not one, sadly....

Is it possible to have the number of unread emails in the Inbox show on the Thunderbird icon in the Windows 10 Taskbar? This would be very convenient and avoids the need to keep opening up TB to check. I recently tried eM Client, which had this feature, but, returned to TB to avoid other dislikes I found in eM. Thanks in anticipation Robs

Since Thunderbird updated to 128.5.2 I have not been able to receive or send emails using my provider, Spintel. I have spent 6 hours over 4 sessions on the phone to Spintel. They cannot resolve the problem and told me to contact Thunderbird. Do I need to change POP3 and SMTP settings to work with Thunderbird's latest update?

Hello,

I added a new Outlook account to Thunderbird and it is not showing in Thunderbird. I added the new email account to Outlook client, and the email is comign in fine. So, its a Thunderbird issue.

I used the default IMAP settings when addding the new account.

I gave it the required/requested "permissions" as promoted.

This use to work fine in Thunderbird, as I have added several Outloook acounts prior which are coming in fine, but it seems it is no longer working now.

About a month ago I began the process of upgrading from W10 to W11. In the process, several problems happened. One of the problems was with Firefox. After reading and trying many suggestions from the Mozilla site, as well as several other sites, and having no success, I posted my problem on this Mozilla support site and hope that there was someone who could help. There was. After several days of exchanging messages (suggestions, instructions and results - mostly about Profile), Firefox returned.

The other major problem is Thunderbird. I have downloaded a current version (128.5.2esr). I have run it twice and, each time, email was downloaded. So that part seems to be working. What doesn’t appear are the settings I have used and message folders I have created over several years. I suspect that the problems are Profile related.

Starting from Help in the Thunderbird menu, then Troubleshooting Information, then Application Basics, I see Profile Folder. On that line is a button labeled Open Folder followed by (Local Drive). I click Open Folder and File Explorer opens to a folder named ab3xaztm.default-esr. It shows that the folder contains 59 items, including 10 subfolders. All files and folders show a December date.

Following the path C:\Users\rsuth\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\, in addition to ab3x…, there is another folder nlys3gkl.default that contains only 1 file, times.json.

Because of my earlier struggle – and eventual win – with the Firefox problem, I think that the Thunderbird problem might also be fixed in a similar way: Profile.

Slightly before the upgrading from W10 to W11, I made a copy of my Thunderbird folder. I think if I replace the currently active Thunderbird folder with the one I have saved, my Thunderbird problem may be over. However, I’m not certain that will happen and I’m not certain about the specific steps to take to make the replacement. (With my Firefox issue, there were a couple of small important steps I had to take to make it work, and those steps were explained to me by the person who helped me with my Firefox problem. So, after all these words, can someone point me in the direction to solve my Thunderbird problem?

Thanks for reading.

This happened once before, then started working again for a few months and now doing it again. When I start up Thunderbird the emails will not load. I keeps saying "not responding." After around five minutes or so a couple of emails will load and then it's back to "not responding." Then another few or more minutes of waiting and another couple of emails download and back to "not responding." This goes on for hours. Tonight I have been waiting for eight hours and I'm still waiting with no end in sight. I can't do anything else with email until it finishes. This is very frustrating. Can you help?

I'm trying to transfer the Profile folder from my current laptop to my new one. I followed the directions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer but must've made a mistake because none of my many Local folders have populated Thunderbird in the new laptop. Also, the GB size, number of files and number of folders show to be very different on the new laptop vs. the current one.

I'm inclined to just start over but have a question. Can I simply delete the contents of the "Thunderbird" folder under "Roaming" in my new laptop and try again to paste into it? Or are there some items in that folder that were inserted when I first downloaded TB into my new laptop so that doing a complete deletion would remove those and they wouldn't be replaced when I try pasting again? If so, how do I get around that?

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi, in order to avoid problems with the view of emails, I repaired the folder of my emails configured as imap. During this process, all emails were reloaded from my provider. so far so good. But the dates of the emails now have all the time& date of today. Changing the sort order from date to received didn't change anything. By using CTRL-U I could see the correct dates: extract:

I tried to find an answer via the net which was not successful. My question: how could I configure TB to us the correct received date?

I've tried Troubleshooting Mode but it only recommends "Clear Startup Cache" and when I click it to reboot the program Thunderbird stills fails to load the Inbox file and Troubleshooting Mode again recommends the same "Clear Startup Cache" as a remedy. Not sure what to do to get Inbox file loaded in program. BTW the program does download new emails to the Inbox file but program is unable to load the file. During Thunderbird program restart the message at the bottom left of Thunderbird window is "Summarizing files for Inbox" which after 20 minutes program crashes ans asks for a reboot. Any corrective action recommendations is appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

Hi Thunderbird Support Team,

I recently installed the latest version of Thunderbird in a Hyper-V virtual machine and encountered the following message: " Approval required Mozilla Thunderbird This app requires your admin's approval to: Read and write access to mailboxes via IMAP. Read and write access to mailboxes via POP.

Allows the app to have the same access to mailboxes as the signed-in user via POP protocol.

This is a permission requested to access your data in xx Send emails from mailboxes using SMTP AUTH. Maintain access to data you have given it access to View users' basic profile"

This was functioning with the previous version of Thunderbird, but now my IT team requires additional information about what the app is trying to do with our Office 365 environment. The approval process is crucial because some apps may introduce security risks or seek extensive access to our Office 365 resources.

Could you please provide more detailed information on the permissions requested and the specific changes in this version compared to previous versions? This will help in getting the necessary approval from our IT team.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards, Jenny

Hi

I am getting the "Unable to Login at Server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password" message for my outlook and gmail accounts. My passwords and user names / mail address are correct. Thunderbird has tested the configurations and picked them up from the servers.

I have used the outlook app on my windows 11 system and have immediate success with the same credentials. I really don't want to use Outlook but am feeling forced to do so as there is no clear help on how to get Thunderbird to work. It has worked previously on the same laptop without any fuss.

Please help!
